Michigan LIFT (Michigan Launchpad for Industrial Innovation & Transformation) is a public-private platform that brings together industrial demand, private capital, state resources, and industrialization support to close critical supply-chain gaps and expand competitive production capacity in Michigan.

Founded by Ford, JPMorganChase, the State of Michigan through MEDC, Michigan Central, and Newlab, Michigan LIFT aims to scale critical technologies and capabilities in Michigan. The platform translates manufacturing and supply-chain challenges identified by industrial buyers into Open Calls for innovation-led companies or suppliers that can address them.

Each Open Call is a public request for solutions to an industry-defined need, with technical and commercial criteria. Companies with relevant solutions that could be scaled in Michigan can respond to open calls. Relevant submissions are referred to participating buyers for evaluation and validation. Where a solution shows a credible path to adoption, Michigan LIFT helps coordinate potential financing, public resources, and other support needed to scale production.

Open Calls

Flexible and non-rigid material assembly

How might we enable scalable, automated, and cost-competitive U.S. assembly of flexible and non-rigid materials across diverse product configurations?

Advanced metal components

How might we expand resilient, cost-competitive U.S. capacity to produce complex cast, forged, formed, and precision-machined components using advanced materials such as titanium, magnesium, nickel-based superalloys, and other critical metals across aerospace, automotive, defense, energy, and industrial applications?

Brownfield manufacturing equipment

How might we improve the reliability, quality, and capacity of existing “brownfield” manufacturing equipment without requiring costly wholesale line replacement?

Qualification of alternative manufacturing inputs

How might we reduce the time and cost required to evaluate and qualify alternative components, materials, and sources while maintaining performance, quality, and supply continuity?
